Following manufacturers recommendations can be extremely costly!
Examples
The 1.2 PureTech (EB2 engine) is a wet belt engines. However, while some of Peugeot's wet belt rivals promise up to 10 years or 150,000 miles of trouble free motoring on the same cam belt, the 2008 and its 1.2 PureTech will only go up to 60,000 miles and/or six years before it needs to be replaced.
What's more, because the 1.2 PureTech engine uses a special belt in the oil system, the cost to replace it is higher, with dealers quoting a minimum of £700 to replace and more if the sump is to be removed and the oil strainer cleaned or replaced.
Ford Transit 2.0 EcoBlue TDCI Wet Belt Problems!
The Ford Transit is probably one of the most common vans seen on the road today and is championed by tradesmen and delivery drivers up and down the country.
With the latest edition to the Transit range the 2.0 EcoBlue TDCI you get a Timing Belt in replacement of the old Timing Chain which Ford recommend to be replaced at 150,000 miles or ten years.
What we are seeing in the trade though is timing belt failures well before either the 150,000 mile interval or the ten year time frame.
We are recommending customers to get theirs changed around 60,000 miles or five years to prevent the chance of failure and a hefty bill for unnecessary engine repairs caused by the failure.
